Hot Colorado Ski Spots

Taos Ski Vacations

Taos ski vacations are a great consideration for people who love the slopes but want to stay within the United States. Taos is located in New Mexico and because of the views, well-groomed slopes, and Taos ski vacations, people come from near and far to enjoy. In fact, the skiing in Taos is considered to be among the most affordable but without skimping on pampering and luxury. In Taos, there are many excellent restaurants that offer incredible Southwest cuisine, along with charming shops, museums, and more. The possibilities for Tao ski vacations are incredible. For instance, some packages will include accommodations at hotels while others actually provide apartment living. One of the newest places included in Taos ski vacations is called Swiss Chalet Apartments. Located only five minutes from the resort's primary chairlift, it is no wonder this is a favorite place to stay.

Vail Ski Packages

Unfortunately, some people hear about Vail ski packages and automatically assume the cost is too high and the slopes too advanced. In truth, there are a number of Vail ski packages that are quite affordable and as far as the slopes, Vail has some of the most incredible skiing on the front and back bowls. Therefore, you do not have to be an expert skier or snowboarder to enjoy the magnificent runs and scenery that Vail has to offer.

If you want the Vail ski package to include skiing and snowboarding primarily, you can set it up for that but if you want to ski only a day or two and enjoy other activities, there are packages that would be perfect. During the day, you can ski hard and then at night, kick back and relax or visit any number of nightclubs to experience the vibrant nightlife found in Vail.

Winterpark Ski Vacations

While there are many beautiful ski resorts in Colorado, one of the most amazing is called Winter Park. This particular ski area offers slopes for every level of skier and the countryside is simply stunning. Because the runs are wide and always well-groomed, this is the ideal destination for family. In fact, Winter Park ski vacations could include special school time for the children, giving them the opportunity to learn how to maneuver the slopes like a pro. With more than 349 inches of snow every year, Winter Park Colorado ski vacations are a family's best friend. Vacation packages come with a variety of options in addition to skiing and snowboarding such as dog sledding, snowmobile tours, and even sleigh rides. The entire area is simply breathtaking, offering the perfect balance for people who want to experience excitement with those looking for a place where they can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

Whether going as a couple, a group, or a family, without doubt, Winter Park Colorado ski packages are one of the best choices to be made. The entire community is festive, offering fantastic skiing during the day, as well as other outdoor activities, along with nighttime entertainment, festivals, and much more.

Enjoy a 2010 Ski Vacation

The many mountains of North America make for great ski vacations. Many people choose to take ski vacations at one or several of the resorts in the United States or Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Known as the Rocky Mountain State, the U.S. state of Colorado is host to several ski resorts. It is also known as one of the best places to ski in the world due to its high elevation and heavier snow fall. One of these resorts is Aspen, well known for its magnificent slopes and well groomed runs as well as celebrity clientele.

Another wonderful Colorado ski resort is Breckenridge, a favourite among visitors from the U.K. due to the town's quaint Old Western theme and its mining heritage. It also has ski slopes for all abilities. Check the internet for cheap ski holidays in this lovely resort town.

Winter Park is another great Colorado ski resort. Not only is it home to great skiing for varying abilities, but it is also home to other Winter events such as dog sledding, snowshoeing, and sleigh rides. After a day of skiing, you can enjoy your evening at one of several restaurants, then jump into one of the baths in the resort's sulphur hot springs.

If you travel farther South, you can enjoy the mountains of California and experience the skiing at Mammoth Mountain or South Lake Tahoe. Mammoth Mountain, considered to be the best snowboarding mountain in California, offers skiing from November to July due to its annual 30 foot snowfall each Winter. Though mostly geared to the intermediate skier, there are beginner runs as well. After a day of skiing, a free shuttle is offered so the town's restaurants and bars can be enjoyed at night.

At South Lake Tahoe, while visiting one of many ski resorts in the area, an amazing view can be enjoyed. A lift ticket at South Lake Tahoe is interchangeable with more than 8 different resorts in the area. An Apres-ski is available for reservations at some of the area attractions. Plan a visit with friends and family for great group ski holidays.

North of the U.S. border in Canada, you will find the ski resorts of Whistler, British Columbia and Banff, Alberta. Whistler is known for some of the best powder skiing in the world and is one of the only places that you can enjoy Summer skiing on a glacier. It has high speed lifts, so the ski slopes can be reached quickly. In Banff, you have the benefit of a high speed enclosed gondola for a comfortable ride to the top of the ski slopes. After a day of skiing, relax the aching bones in one of the area hot springs pools. Check online for special discounts for a cheap ski holiday.

Alaska's Alyeska Resort - Family and Ski Vacation Extraordinaire

The "Land of the Midnight Sun" has always been an amazing source of raw, rugged beauty and many think of Alaska only as a great summertime vacation destination. On the other hand, if you like to ski you may want to consider Alaska when planning your next ski vacation because it has some of the best skiing in the world.

And one of the top resorts in all of Alaska is the Alyeska Resort. Alyeska has a top elevation slightly above 2,700 feet, a vertical drop of 2,500 and the area gets an average annual snowfall of 631 inches.

In addition to offering some of the best skiing in the world, another nice benefit of Alyeska is that you won't run into long lift lines or overly crowded slopes. There are nine lifts, including six chair lifts, two surface lifts and one cable car line. The majority of their trails are designed for the intermediate skier but with 68 trails they also have countless runs for both the beginner and expert.

Night skiing is not only allowed but it may be one of most awe inspiring ski experiences you'll ever have. Snow capped mountains, hanging glaciers and the infamous Northern Lights are just a few of the visual bonuses of night skiing at Alyeska. It was ranked number nine in Skiing Magazine's annual top twenty-five killer ski trip reviews.

The season begins in mid November and runs through mid April at Alyeska and with close to sixteen hours of daylight each day during April, this area of Alaska boasts the longest period of daylight anywhere in the United States. On the other hand, in December, there are only about seven hours of daylight but with their fabulous night time skiing it's really not an issue.

The Alyeska Prince Hotel is the wonderful place to stay. You'll enjoy elegant rooms, fine dining and nightly entertainment is also available. In addition, there are other nightlife watering holes in the area that are not associated with the hotel.

If tubing interests you, then visiting the Glacier Tubing Park is an absolute must. It features two lanes of terrain and a surface lift and everyone in the family will enjoy spending time at the tubing park. The Alyeska Terrain Park is a must for snowboarding enthusiasts. Other winter activities that can be enjoyed in and around the Alyeska Resort include flight seeing, heliskiing, ocean cruising tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back country skiing, mountaineering and polar bear watching tours.

The Alyeska Resort not only offers some of the best skiing on the continent but when you consider the broad range of available winter activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family, it represents one of the best winter vacation destinations in the world - bar none.

The Colorado Trail: The Official Guidebook

Products by : The Mountaineers Books

Get this book. You won't find a better Guidebook. I have numerous Guidebooks from several publishers and authors and I haven't seen anything better. The book includes sections on planning your trip, the heritage, natural history and geology of the Colorado Trail.

The book provides a tremendous amount of information. A great deal of effort went into the organization and layout of the information in the book. The individuals that were responsible for making this book available should take tremendous pride in a job very well done.

Note that this book is bigger and heavier than many other Guidebooks because of the great color photographs. I consider this to be a plus. This is a beautiful Guidebook. My other Guidebooks for the most part all have black & white photographs. They all pale in comparison to this beautiful book.

We used this book to plan a two week "tour" of the front range and it was great. I particularly like the way it is organized by city or region, then by activity (accomodations, dining, attractions etc).

After skimming the areas we planned to visit once, I went back and made a list of the things we wanted to see and do. The book provided hours, prices, phone numbers and directions for each item. This helped plan the day so we didnt miss something because it was closed.

The descriptions are fairly complete and offer more info than the "hotel tourist stand" brochure from the same place. This let us decide, in advance, to skip things that were overly expensive or didnt sound appealing, instead of being disappointed for having spent the time and money.

The guide also has info for lots of places that the state tourism department packet left out.

On the same trip, we used the Insider's Guide to the Bad Lands and Black Hills and, even though it used a similar organization we found it much less useful.

Rating Reviews : 3.0

Unfortunately the previous review does not give just credit to the hikes included in this book and the specific reason for including them. As a native of Colorado, I can say that there are copious amounts of trails and wanderings to be enjoyed and Weinstein and Johnson's guide does an excellent job of providing a handful of quality Colorado options for the day-hiker or multi-day trekker. It is truly one of the few guides that covers loop routes of Colorado in vivid description and I would highly recommend it.

Usually ships in 1-2 business days.

Les 2 Alpes - A High Altitude and Great Diversity Ski Center

Les 2 Alpes ski resort is a high-altitude (up to 3,600 meters) winter vacations center with more than 220 kilometers of ski slopes, world-class snow park and much much more. Surprisingly, number 2 in Les 2 Alpes don't mean "alps", but two villages in vicinity of the ski center - Mont De Lans and Venosc. Mont De Lans is also the name od Europe's largest glacier, which is located in the area. Les 2 alpes ski resort is one of the oldest in France, just behind the Chamonix.

The Dome Express, an underground funicular that takes tourist up to nearly three thousand and five hundred meters was opened in the late nineties. The trip with this funicular is more than worth it - the panorama of Les 2 Alpes ski resort on a clear day is fantastic and if you're lucky you might be able to see even one of Europe's highest peaks, Mount Blanc. Unfortunately, unpredictable winds and blizzards in the winter can leas to closing of the top.

Most of the visitors of Les 2 Alpes ski center come here to ski or to snowboard and not for sightseeing, though one could enjoy just doing the latter as well. If you stay here a for a week and want to try out as many runs as possible, you can try ten ney ones each day, because there are as many as seventy available in the resort. Les 2 Alpes also takes great interest in snowboarding experience, here snowboarders will find reserved spaces, a boarder cross, a half pipe and plenty of great terrain to enjoy. The runs in Les 2 Alpes are diverse enough to suit to just about anyone. Among before-mentioned seventy runs available here, there are seventeen beginner, thirty-one average and twenty-two advanced.

Further information on Les 2 Alpes experience are available on the website or can be obtained via e-mail. More information about the Les2 Alpes ski resort are also available on the site.

Vail Lift Tickets - Tips For Finding Discount Lift Tickets For Vail, Colorado

Vail lift tickets and multi day ski passes allow you to explore both Beaver Creek Resort and Vail. Both resorts are located right in the heart of the Colorado Rockies and get hammered by snow coming in from California and Utah. Moisture laden clouds come in and drop 350+ inches a year. Both Vail and Beaver Creek Resort have a reputation for being for the elite vacationer, but with discounts available on the internet and through travel agents, a visit to these resorts can be affordable if you play by the discount rules.

Here's a quick profile for the Vail Resort.
Vail Resort Profile:
Acres of Terrain: 5,289 acres
Lifts: 31
Runs: 193
Average Snowfall: 350 inches
Difficulty of Terrain: Beginner 18%, Intermediate 29%, Advanced 53%

Location: Getting here is easy! Vail is located in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado, just 100 miles west of Denver and just 30 miles east of Eagle. I-70 is a scenic and direct route into Vail from just about anywhere!

Finding Discount Lift Tickets For Vail Resort

1) Book Keystone Ski Tickets Online
Ahhhh....the power of the web. What a fantastic tool. Simply log on and spend just a couple minutes finding ski deals that will save you 10-30% on lift tickets and ski deals for Vail and other resorts. Many lift ticket consolidators that sell lift tickets online simply send your lift ticket voucher to your email. It's generally really easy. The hardest part is finding what time of year to visit.

2) Vail Lift Tickets On eBay
Many savvy searchers go to eBay and search for "Vail lift tickets" or "Vail ski coupons." eBay used to be a good resource for discount lift tickets, but some policies under the new eBay platform don't allow tickets to be sold on their system. It is best to avoid this approach because you never know if you're going to get skunked when you show up to get your ticket scanned.

3) Lift Tickets for Groups

Often times groups visiting Vail are offered bulk discounts. If you're coming with a group of 20 people or more it is advisable to contact the resort directly to see if they are willing to provide a free ticket or offer discount rates.

4) Buying Lift Tickets at the Resort
Scalping tickets at the resort sometimes works out but is not the preferred method for saving money on Vail lift tickets. This puts the purchaser in an akward position because if you can't find scalped tickets, then you'll be forced to pay full price at the ticket window. Uniquely Colorado: A Stranger's Guide to Discovering the Sights, Sounds and People of Colorado Description

This travel guide not only shows and describes a sample of some of the historic and beautiful places in Colorado but also describes its people too. Built out of the ‘Wild West’ era of settlers, native Indians, Gold and Silver rushes and more, Colorado has a lot more to it than just skiing and shopping. Uniquely Colorado offers an insight into how Coloradoans think and helps explain behavior that can often be considered strange by visitors, both American and foreign. This book, ideal for foreigners trying to understand America, can help change perceptions of the American West, as well as highlighting some of the most historic and ancient sites in the country.

Colorado Ski Areas

Rocky and mountainous regions of the southwestern parts of the United States are home to an estimated 4,861,515 Coloradans this year 2007. Although almost half of the State of Colorado's geographical make up is flat, in blatant contrast to the rugged Rocky Mountain region of the United States where it resides, Colorado is made up of more than 500 mountain tops that stretch up to more than 4,000 meters in height - making it the only state in the United States that goes beyond 1,000 meters in elevation. Out of the 500 towering peaks, 51 of which are called "fourteeners", that is, those of its kind that elevate up to 14,000 meters and even more.

Despite the incredibly changing weather conditions in the area brought about by the varying land altitudes of Colorado, the mountains always bring in rich layers of white cool snow when the season comes. This is why Colorado is home to many world famous ski resorts. Colorado ski areas swarm the mountainous regions of the state, catering to the local population and snow loving tourists alike, making it one of its strongest economic assets based on tourism. Among the world renowned Colorado ski areas include the Vail Ski Resort located in the Eagle County of Colorado known for its various ski paths as well as the fact that opened up the Town of Vail, named after the resort. Another would be the Aspen Winter Resort found in the most populous city in Pitkin County, Colorado, where aside from being a famous ski lodge is also nearby other institutions like the Aspen Music and Festival School, also a recreational target for tourists and Coloradans alike in their own special way.

Whether climates are in season for skiing or not, Colorado ski areas are always open to welcome customers for reservations and vacation plans to their establishments when the time comes for families and individuals, local or foreign, to enjoy themselves in the snow. As a matter of fact, the best time to get great vacation packages to these resorts is during off season. Colorado ski areas like the Arapahoe Basin as well as the Sunlight Mountain and all other resorts that belong to the Colorado Gems Resorts offer lots of deals and offers over the internet.

With ski paths that are made to vary to suit every unique skier's skill level, along with world class service for all those who want it, Colorado ski areas are always open to all snow lovers and skiers worldwide for as long as there is snow.

Log Cabins - the Ultimate Ski Vacation Accommodation

There is possibly nothing so suitable as a log cabin for a ski vacation, especially for city dwellers. The most complete kind of holiday offers a total change from your everyday life, and a ski vacation in a log cabin can give you this like no other holiday. Staying in a designer hotel may be agreeable, but how different is that hotel from those you stay at on business trips? Similarly there are many smart condos in ski resorts, which may have sophisticated furnishings and nice views, but often something very similar could be found in an urban setting. There is almost no chance, however, that you will find anything approximating a log cabin in any city. In the unlikely event that someone wanted to build one, the planning restrictions would surely prevent it ever happening.

In a ski resort, however, log cabins are not just allowed, they are part of the culture of the mountains. Although they represent a fairly profligate way of using wood compared to the framing method, there is something tremendously satisfying about the feeling of a log cabin, especially those constructed with massive logs. The building feels bomb-proof, it is so chunky. It is incomparably warm and cozy, but also satisfyingly authentic. You can hardly cause it any damage: scratches that would be disfiguring to a plasterboard wall simply add character to a log wall. And while there might have been a time when a log cabin was dark and slightly oppressive, modern log-built homes can have soaring ceilings, expansive windows and sophisticated designs that give them the best of all worlds.

Take Horstman Chalet Two, offered for rent by Holiday Whistler Accommodation in Whistler, North America’s leading ski resort. It is a truly spectacular home, with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a restaurant-quality kitchen, a den and a study. It combines the coziness of log construction with a very sophisticated gallery amid the expansive great room. It is a dream location for a ski rental, with a private ski-in run and terrific views over the beautiful Whistler valley. It is possibly the ultimate rental accommodation in Whistler, a town which features many spectacular rental homes.
